'Math Le Blanc EP' by Meet Your Heroes

"Welcome, fusion heads!"

...Words that feature prominently on the Meet Your Heroes Bandcamp page and, whether perceived as a challenge or an invitation, have become synonymous with the dynamic trio.

With the release of their debut, self-titled EP only unveiled the year prior, the Brighton-based trio quickly established an exuberant and eclectic sound, brilliantly conveyed through their impassioned performances and imaginative compositions.

Comprised of drummer Peter Adam Hill, guitarist Rob Lamont and bassist Rhys Lovell, the Meet Your Heroes trio now offer up their sophomore EP release with the playfully-titled 'Math Le Blanc'.  The title though proves indicative of the personality that Hill, Lamont and Lovell exude throughout the project.  With the seemingly vegan inspired track-list of their debut to the homage-ing of the man who gifted us Joey Tribbiani; Meet Your Heroes is very much born of the joy of performing and the freedom attributed to it.

While tracks through 'Math Le Blanc' certainly fit the "jazz rock" description that the trio tout on Bandcamp and their socials - high-energy, guitar-centric tracks are an absolute mainstay - numbers like 'Snipe' and 'Chaos Queen' offer a playful dalliance into psychedelia and, in turn, a deliciously twisted take on contemporary jazz and jazz rock.

Despite its roots dating back to the 1960s and despite it being a genre with its roots tied to the pioneering works of Miles Davis, the notion of "jazz rock" as a singular genre has always proved a mildly conflicting concept to grasp.  Naturally, as two completely dissimilar genres, so much of their aesthetics and audiences seem at polar opposites but as a unified concept, jazz rock may very well work best when artists find the unhindered freedom within both ideals.

From jazz's complex harmonies to the flamboyant energy of rock, Meet Your Heroes have adeptly managed to find the balance within each and present 'Math Le Blanc' as a project that effortlessly brings cohesion to the disparity.

Even though the project comes together perfectly thanks to its sheer charisma and scintillating energy, 'Math Le Blanc' is a testament to the trio's vision but there are still enticing elements of risk which will always be compelling - like seeing a beautiful woman and mustering the courage to go over and ask, "How you doin!"
